Today was the first practice/game for the Tochigi Foxes, the girls soccer team for the prefecture (the mens team is the Weasels). Most of the girls don't seem to know very much about soccer, even the ones who played last year, I think there are maybe 5 or 6 experienced players on the team. But it looks like it'll be alot of fun. Patricia, a new JET from Kentucky, will be the captain and it looks like I'll be assisting her (I could have been captain but I didn't really want to have to organize practices in Utsunomiya from Kanuma). Between the two of us we should be able to remember most of the necessary drills and rules so the Foxes stand a chance in the tournament. I played two games today, a 7 on 7 with just the girls (more a warm up really) while the Weasels played an actual game on the full sized field. Then when they were finished we mixed up the teams and played coed with about 13 players a side (meaning no subs and everyone on the field). That ended 2-3, the other team won but I scored one of our two goals!
Thats all for now folks, tomorrow I'll be getting everything together for starting teaching on wednesday.
